Mohamed Ghazala: Jury to the 4th edition

The Egyptian Animation director Mohamed Ghazala will participate as a member of Jury to the 4th edition of Animabasauri animation festival which will take place in Bilbao, Spain between the 18th and the 25th of  April 2008. He will present lectures about African animation with screening of a selection of best animated films since 70 years ago until now.

Animabasauri festival will have 10 feature films in contest (Official Feature Film Section), 63 short films in 35mm (Official Short Film Section) and 80 short films in DVD (Karratu Section). Apart from that, we will have South Korea as the guest country and we will screen some feature and short films from there i.e. two exhibitions: one about Michel Ocelot's "Azur & Asmar" a feature film and another one about puppets and dolls of animation characters. Two retrospectives: one about Juan Padrón, Cuban animator, and another one about Kimuak (a programme for promoting Basque short films worldwide). There will be a screening of short feature films nominated for Goya Awards in 2008.

There will also be a retrospective of four European Animation Schools (ENSAD (France), MAISCA (Spain), ARS (Spain), FILMAKADEMIE (Germany)). In addition workshops and screenings for children will be held.

Besides being teacher assistant in the University of Minia, Mohamed Ghazala has worked as character designer in animated films and as a children books illustrator. Nowadays he is responsible of African Panorama; part of the Africa Animated project that the UNESCO initiated with the intention to provide training and resources needed for the production of professional children animation films in Africa.
